From Nashville and now rated as one of the finest goodtime/bluegrass duos in the whole of North America. These guys guarantee good vibes, good humour and good music wherever they play.
"In a city that values its rhinestones, they are managing to make music that is real and true, the thing itself as opposed to a parody of the thing. Theirs are the songs you long to hear late at night on the interstate, in pool halls and smoky whiskey bars." Ann Patchett, New York Times
“It’s the voice, the stories and the honesty of the music that make Jeff & Vida a must see!” Mike Cobley (Brighton Review)
“Contemporary Bluegrass at its Finest” Bluegrass Unlimited
“I’ve been fortunate enough to catch Jeff & Vida a couple of times in Dallas. The first time I saw them I was amazed. The second time I had fun watching everyone else be amazed. I believe they define the roots of American music.” Michael Johnson (Dallas Rock World)
“A bluegrass whirlwind” Americana UK
“As authentically roots and organic as seedlings planted by Jimmie Rodgers, nurtured by The Carter Family and cultivated by Levon Helm” R2
“Jeff & Vida continue to shape some of the most potent, bluegrass-influenced sounds around...'Selma Chalk' is another skillful, Roots-imbued missive from this long-serving duo who seem to have a knack for turning misfortune into artistic gold.” Whisperin’ & Hollerin’
One of New Orleans' best known acoustic acts, Jeff & Vida have recently relocated to Nashville Tennessee. With three critically acclaimed records under their belt and six years of rigorous touring both nationally and internationally, the duo make big impressions wherever they go.
Their return to the UK in 2012 is part of their ongoing tour in support of their last release, Selma Chalk, which has received widespread critical acclaim throughout the Bluegrass and Americana world. During 2010 it was on the Roots Radio Charts for over six months in the United States.
Drawing influences from both Deep South Country and Appalachian string band music, Jeff & Vida’s sound is Bluegrass with an edge. It's a little bluesier than the traditional bluegrass band. Think Jimmy Martin, Chuck Berry and Gillian Welch all rolled up in one. Both their singing and playing lives up to such hefty comparisons. The quality is there and the music is all their own.
At the heart of Jeff & Vida’s sound is the powerful songwriting that the duo has become known for. Their original compositions cover a lot of ground. Their melodies and lyrics are insightful and intense, sometimes mining the timeless traditional themes of the genre but unafraid to venture into previously untouched territory.
With past performances including the Ryman Auditorium, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival in Ireland, Jeff & Vida have emerged as a top Americana act.
