One of New Orleans' best known acoustic acts, Jeff & Vida have recently relocated to Nashville Tennessee. With three critically acclaimed records under their belt and five years of rigorous touring both nationally and internationally, the duo make big impressions wherever they go.

 

Their return to the UK is part of their ongoing tour in support of their latest release, Selma Chalk, which has been receiving widespread critical acclaim throughout the Bluegrass and Americana world.  As of April 2010 it has been on the Roots Radio Report Charts for nearly six months, currently sitting at no.11 in the Roots Country Category.

 

Drawing influences from both Deep South Country and Appalachian string band music, Jeff & Vida’s sound is Bluegrass with an edge.  It's a little bluesier than the traditional bluegrass band.  Think Jimmy Martin, Chuck Berry and Gillian Welch all rolled up in one. Both their singing and playing lives up to such hefty comparisons. The quality is there and the music is all their own.

 

At the heart of of Jeff & Vida’s sound is the powerful songwriting that the duo has become known for.  Their original compositions cover a lot of ground.  Their melodies and lyrics are insightful and intense, sometimes mining the timeless traditional themes of the genre but unafraid to venture into previously untouched territory.
