“Awna’s burgundy tones bring haunting melancholy to ballads and gung-ho brio to old-timey stompers.” Maverick Magazine
Long awaited first tour by the mesmeric Po’Girl singer Awna Teixeira. Awna will be touring with an accompanist and will be performing songs from her back catalogue as well as most of her forthcoming solo album. As you would expect from someone as multi-talented as Awna she will be featuring accordion, guitar, ukulele and harmonicas as well as that unforgettable voice.
DANNY SCHMIDT &
CARRIE ELKIN (USA): Split
Bill ON TOUR – 26th September to 14th
October - JUST A FEW DATES LEFT
www.dannyschmidt.com & www.carrieelkin.com
www.youtube.com/watch?v=boqQxwiUT2A
It's a special treat when Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin, who normally tour separately and solo, get to share the stage together. Don't miss these two great artists in a rare split-bill performance, sharing songs back and forth, lending their voices to each other's tunes & lending commentary, in the form of smart-ass between-song banter. A fabulously entertaining evening of great music.
“Danny is unanimously regarded as incredible, if not unbelievable, if not just plain beautiful - an astounding guitar player and a true poet (if the wind can be called a poet).” - Songwriter Paul Curreri
( Carrie) “made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end” – Bob Harris BBC Radio
BLAME SALLY (USA) 4 piece ON TOUR – 18th to 28th October
www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEqmnB4wenU
www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4A1CErsjPI
“Don’t Blame Sally – buy them!.” Americana UK
“Share the Blame, this band are good” Maverick Magazine
We don’t take on many new bands but we couldn’t resist working with this crew from San Francisco. They’ve just signed a six figure record deal with 9th Street Opus records, recognition of their magical sound, extraordinary songwriting and fanatical following all across America. They’ve already colonised mainland Europe and now they’re on their way to the UK for the first time with their potent mix of supreme musicality and vibrant stagecraft – oh, and they have a pretty powerful political edge too (watch the video of ‘If You Tell A Lie’). Great stuff.
GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV (CAN): duo/trio ON TOUR – 24th
October to 4th November - GOING FAST
www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBjeaz6qyt4
“Gregory Alan Isakov makes quietly lush, deeply vibrant music more rooted in the starry night sky—like the one on the cover of his latest LP—than any terrestrial locale.” – Paste Magazine
You don’t come across people like Gregory too often. Someone described his music as “making you feel like you're in a woodland cabin with a glass of red wine, a snowstorm outside and your special someone at your side”. His voice resonates with warmth and infuses his songs with a kind of tranquil beauty – it’s remarkable stuff, once heard never forgotten. Made a huge impact when he toured last year, selling out several venues, and we expect this tour to book very quickly.
CATHERINE MACLELLAN (CAN): (Duo with Tanya Davis as support) ON TOUR – 8th to 18th November
www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BTLXMequgE&NR=1&feature=fvwp (Water In The Ground)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj3v25wKyYg&NR=1&feature=fvwp (Old Tin Can)
Catherine comes from Prince Edward Island on Canada’s east coast, has an extraordinary voice that insinuates its way into your heart and just won’t let go. Combine this with expert songwriting, fine musicianship and a riveting stage presence and you have one of the most compelling artists touring today.
“Such lovely melodies and sung so elegantly - classy and interesting.” The Telegraph
Touring with her friend Tanya Davis, the remarkable poet/musician whose video ‘How To Be Alone’ has had almost 4 million hits on You Tube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7X7sZzSXYs )
DREW NELSON: (USA): duo/solo ON TOUR – 14th to 25th November
www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJt3Ag-qtTE
“His songs sound like the rest of us feel. After so many years at the mercy of the high and mighty his characters are anything but defeated. They are dazed, angry, amazed and climbing." John Gorka, songwriter
A stunning talent from Michigan and a truly inspirational musician. Drew has taken audiences by storm since he first ventured to these shores in 2007. With his irresistible voice and simply brilliant songs we are pleased to welcome him back in 2012 for his fourth UK tour – and with a brand new CD.
Allow Drew to introduce the new album …“The new album is called “Tilt-a-Whirl” and will be out in Feb. 2012 on Red House Records. It's a collection of character songs. Very Americana.. think in the veins of Steve Earl/ Springsteen.. it "rocks' more than my earlier work. All tied together by a Hammond B-3 organ and a big dark tremolo guitar.” Sounds good.
MATTHEWS SOUTHERN
COMFORT (UK): 4 piece ON TOUR 22nd
November to 2nd December
www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7SCCLl9t10
The legend returns - in 2011 Iain Matthews reformed Matthews Southern Comfort and undertook a short European tour that brought the band to the UK for 3 sell-out shows. That success persuaded Iain to offer the band for a further short tour of 11 UK dates in 2012 and we are happy to announce those dates here. It’s a great show featuring all MSC’s most popular songs including ‘Something In The Way She Moves’, ‘The Road to Ronderlin’ and, of course, their No1 hit ‘Woodstock’ alongside great new material that has emerged during the band’s renaissance (plus the odd Fairport song too maybe!).
SARAH MACDOUGALL (CAN): duo/trio ON TOUR – 28th November to 9th December
www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUTYqpWk-iA (Cry Wolf)
“She could make stone weep. Classic North American folk. Only the coldest of hearts couldn’t take up her plea to ‘ramble with me now’” Q Magazine
“Heartbreakingly beautiful” Americana UK
Sarah MacDougall is a true rising star on the Canadian music scene with her dynamite songs, blistering guitar chops and astounding voice. Her songs have been chosen for onboard entertainment on Lufthansa airplanes twice, on the Fox TV drama ’15 Love’, and she’s been a semi-finalist on the International Songwriting competition with her song Crow’s Lament. She has performed live on the Bob Harris BBC2 show in the UK, played several Canadian and International Festivals, performed with such notable artists as Mary Gauthier, Todd Snider & Kimmie Rhodes and toured with Po’Girl.
