The Believers have it all. A raunchy sound combined with an emotional charm and strong story lines that draw the listener in. Their last album went to No1 on the EuroAmericana chart and was a real favourite of Bob Harris. This time Craig and Cyd are playing acoustically and will suit any UK venue.
“What Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Three might’ve sounded like if they’d jammed with The White Stripes.” David Burke, Rock n Reel Magazine
“The Believers are brilliant” Bob Harris BBC2
"Craig Aspen and Cyd Frazzini - the restless spirits behind the Believers - display a sharp eye for life on the other side of the tracks, elevating their music out of the ordinary." No Depression
The Believers are Craig Aspen and Cyd Frazzini. They met in bar in Seattle and although they were raised on a diet of metal and punk, it was their love for old school country music that brought them together. As fate would have it - the photos for ‘Lucky You’, their new record, were shot in that very same bar in Seattle where the pair met seven years ago.
Prior to becoming a Believer, Craig bounced between New York City and New Orleans - songwriting by day, bar tending by night and during this time he recorded two albums: Wandering Jew (1999) & Like a Pistol Feels Remorse (2000).
Trading her horse in for a Volvo, Cyd left her country home in Denver, Colorado, traded her horse for a Volvo and began performing in rock bands, listening to Metallica and the heavy sounds of 1990's Seattle. However, one day she was re-introduced to Bluegrass Music by Bill Reynolds (Band of Horses, Blue Rags, Donna the Buffalo) and from that moment she was determined to pursue and learn more about the Appalachian style and its influences on American-Folk music.
Magic was born from the very first song Cyd and Craig sang together; the Gram Parsons classic "Hickory Wind". Within weeks after meeting they began writing and recording songs for their first album, the critically acclaimed Row. But it was their second album, Crashyertown that really hit home, especially in Europe and the UK where the album reached the number one spot in the Euro Americana chart and was chosen album of the week on many radio shows, including the legendary Bob Harris Country program. Back home, in the United States, "Crashyertown" spent 16 straight weeks in the top 20 of the Americana Music Association chart.
Since the release of "Crashyertown" The Believers have toured non-stop throughout USA, UK and Europe, lived a couple of years in Nashville and in their spare time have made a brand new record called "Lucky You”. It was their first for CoraZong Records. Co-produced with Steve Adamek & mastered by the twang trust's Ray Kennedy, who produced albums for Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams amongst others. "Lucky You" effortlessly blends pop hooks & harmonies while keeping one foot firmly planted in American roots. Imagine Gram & Emmylou having The White Stripes over for dinner. The blend of Craig and Cyd, is a complex paradox where opposites attract. Aspen’s New York City roots style wearing well against Frazzini's plains of Colorado background. Her gentle and transparent voice keeps the listener wanting to close their eyes and wander off into their lyrical landscapes. Backed by an all star cast that features members of Band of Horses, "Lucky You" is a gem delivered with a heaviness and urgency that is right now. Of their latest release ‘Lucky You’ , Britain’s Rock n Reel Magazine wrote that The Believers are “What Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Three might’ve sounded like if they’d jammed with The White Stripes.” That sounds about right to Cyd Frazzini who smiles and says, “I hope we can always come across that dangerous.”
